Lauren Sonder is a composer and performer living and working in Oklahoma. Her muted, felt piano sound draws on a mix of pop and classical aesthetics and explores ideas of softness, openness, intimacy, and trust. She enjoys collaboration and has worked with visual artists, dancers, choreographers, and flow artist Sarah Abear. In 2024, she was awarded a Creative Project grant by the Norman Arts Council to write and record new music inspired by flow arts, in collaboration with Sarah Abear. She is excited to be traveling to Germany this summer to participate in the FlussLab transdisciplinary residency program.

Lauren has performed at the University of Oklahoma, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, Opolis, Magic Sad, and other local venues. Her compositions have been performed at the Oklahoma Contemporary Dance Festival, the Summer Burklyn Ballet Theatre, and the Oklahoma Composers Salon Concert series.

Lauren has a Bachelor’s Degree in music from the New England Conservatory of Music and a Master’s Degree in music from the University of Oklahoma. She works as a teaching artist in her home piano studio.
